As I’m going to be in Georgia for a week, I went ahead and bought an annual pass to the Georgia state parks. (If you are going to be in and out of start parks over more than a couple of days, it’s usually cheaper to go ahead and get the annual pass.)
I popped into Vogel State Park to see what kinds of fun they have. It is very much under construction when you come into the park. It looks like they are creating a new building, so if you stop by later this summer it may be done and I’m sure it will be lovely!
I was a little confused about where to go, but managed to stumble into a great parking spot. Then I just trudged around the lake, blindly trying to find trails to explore. It was lovely! And just the right level for me, about a mile, because I wasn’t feeling up to anything too complicated. (There are a LOT of mountains all over the place here, which means the trails tend toward moving very UP and then moving very DOWN. I have lousy balance, and need to keep an eye on the trail so I don’t constantly wipe out. Adding in a lot of altitude changes to that makes perambulating more complicated than fun for me.
When I got to this section of the lake, I saw a sign pointing off the very smooth and flat trail off to a downhill area. Especially because I forget to bring my hiking pole, I’d probably usually just skip it when I’m being lazy. But, not this one. Because this trail had an arrow pointing down and said Trahlyta Falls Trail! I love to look at waterfalls. Now, I have been across Alaska and trudged around some of the most amazing and beautiful waterfalls on this planet; so I’m hard to impress. But I like them, even when it’s just a small fall.
This was very nice! The photo was rushed, and didn’t get the full spectrum of the falls. There was a couple who were apparently recently engaged, taking photos on the little platform everyone walked down to. That was fine, and they were adorable; but the photo didn’t really show how nice the falls were. So, imagine something about twice this size, lots of good water crashing noise, and just lovely!
As I started back up the trail, I discovered that a few people had followed me down there. (I’m sure this was annoying to the photo couple, but public spaces tend to have members of the public.) I did get to see a very nice large dog! I didn’t pat him, because we were moving past each other too quickly for me to ask his people if he enjoyed pats - but he was absolutely adorable.
If you need more waterfalls in your day, here is a video: Fascinating Waterfalls of the World in 4K HDR - Natural Relaxation Video - Episode 1. I didn’t watch the whole thing, but it was beautiful! Take some time to relax yourself today.
Things I’m listening to:
Not so many books today, but I’ve been through several podcast episodes:
Stuff You Missed in History Class: I really love their quarterly two part episodes on Unearthed topics - so fun! And I always save them to listen when I’m outside walking around.
The Atlas Obscura Podcast: This is a daily podcast, only about 15 minutes, with something interesting to explore each day.
Glamorous Trash: (Where we make treasure out of pop culture Garbage) I’m not a celebrity biography reader, but I always love this podcast and Chelsea’s discussion of these books! I’m part of her Patreon, and I’ve also pre-ordered her audiobook memoir coming out later this summer.
