Ah, another one of the really beautiful old libraries! They are just great to see!!
I’m sure there is an important architectural term for a building with the corner cut off so the door has more room there to look fancy. (Shockingly: that phrase does not Google well!) We’ve looked at a few of these, and I just love to see them!
Sorry about the blurry photo! I was trying to hurry before an actual kid zoomed in to try this stool. But I think you can tell that it’s made of books! I looked at it for a while and I’m pretty sure we could make one of these in my library. What a great idea to go through some books you have weeded!
And look! It’s an entry on our Library Trip Bingo Card (that doesn’t technically exist; but it does in our imagination)! a fireplace! And there is a very comfortable seating area right in front of it - most of which is cut off here because it was filled with patrons enjoying themselves!
And another mark on our Library Trip Bingo cards: the adventure themed summer reading books! I especially love that this is a program for kids AND adults! There is a tendency to overlook adults when libraries do programs; so I’m happy to see book suggestions on the theme of adventure. (Yes, I take pictures of them and I add the good ones to my Goodreads TBR list! It’s getting quite long and out of control this summer, but I don’t even care!)
And I love these paper hot air balloons! They are hanging from the railing on the second floor, in front of that window looking out over the street. So cute, so happily hanging there, and such nice decorations!
And this was just a bonus. I found this mural down the street and it was STUNNING! Yes: that is all painted on a flat wall! There is no bridge, no carvings on the ends. I’m so impressed by the skill of the artist who created this!!! (There is more on each end; it’s impossible to get it all in one photo!)
It’s kind of hard to see, but there are a couple of Lincoln Highway signs. If you look on the corner of the “wall” on the left, under the bridge, you see a couple of kids and a guy talking with them. On the righthand corner, you see a guy with his hand on the wall, dressed in more modern clothes, is supposed to represent us - looking back at the past.
I’ve been taking pictures of all kinds of murals from San Francisco onward, and this is the best, most interesting one, I’ve ever seen!!
(UPDATE: In one of those “this world is very small and cool” coincidences - I posted this picture to one of my online forums and was raving about it there too. And SOMEONE THERE IS FRIENDS WITH THIS ARTIST! My brain was blown with happiness! His name is Eric Grohe, and you can see an assortment of his work on The Street is our Gallery. And here is a great article about his work in this town, and Ohio.)
Maybe today is the day to find some really good adventure books , to enjoy some armchair adventuring!
